2026 ANZSSA Sleep DownUnder Travel Awards - Early Career Scientist Applications Are Now Open

ANZSSA’s Sleep DownUnder Travel Awards (value up to AUD 2,500) aim to support conference attendance and enhance the professional growth of early career professionals (less than 5 years' experience) who are: 

  • First time attendees and/or
  • Presenters without alternate funding 

To be eligible, all applicants must: 

  • Hold ANZSSA associate, ordinary, or honorary membership
  • Disclose all other sources of travel and associated funding
  • Complete a Sleep DownUnder conference program evaluation. Award disbursement will occur by reimbursement upon submission of program evaluation after conference conclusion.
  • Complete and submit the application form on or before the application closing date.
  • Have less than five years’ experience, verified by supervisor / Dept. head
  • Not typically have an annual salary that exceeds $110,000 FTE salary (amount is based on a Scientist Grade 1 Year 5 (Vic public sector EBA) or HP3.5 (QLD Health) as a guide)
  • Upload a signed copy of the Certification by Supervisor/Head of Department form, including verification of early career status.
  • Upload a copy of the submitted conference abstract (if applicable)

2026 Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Travel Scholarship – Applications Are Now Open

Two travel scholarships (value up to NZD 3,000 each) are being offered to sleep physiologists / scientists and CPAP technicians / nurses working in the area of sleep medicine to cover transportation and registration costs relating to Sleep Downunder 2026, the 37th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Australian and New Zealand Sleep Science Association (ANZSSA) and Australasian Sleep Association (ASA) to be held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, Australia 11-14 November 2026. (each, a Scholarship or together, the Scholarships).

Part of the selection criteria will be the submission of a project related to sleep medicine. This should be in the form of a report and might be one of the following examples: case study, pilot research study, conference abstract or quality assurance project.*

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the award the applicants must:
be currently working in the area of sleep medicine within New Zealand;
intend to continue to work in the area of sleep medicine;
submit a project related to sleep medicine as part of the application;
submit / present a report about learnings gained from attendance of the conference to a group of their peers in New Zealand; and
be a current member of ANZSSA.

  ANZSSA Sleep in Aotearoa Travel Awards - Applications Are Now Open

 

ANZSSA’s Sleep in Aotearoa Travel Awards aim to further the career development of ANZSSA members who are currently working in Australia in the field of sleep medicine by supporting their attendance at the Sleep in Aotearoa annual scientific meeting.

Recipients must be the first AND presenting author of an abstract* submitted for Sleep in Aotearoa, and must register and attend the meeting. Awards will be distributed when the recipients submit their programme evaluation at the conclusion of the conference.

*Abstract presentations may encompass traditional research as well as clinical practice topics (e.g. audits, implementation of innovative approaches, quality service improvements).

To be eligible, all applicants must:

  • Be an Australian-based member of the Australian and New Zealand Sleep Science Association (ANZSSA) and hold associate, ordinary, or honorary ANZSSA membership.
  • Disclose availability of other sources of travel funding
  • Be the first AND presenting author of an abstract submitted for Sleep in Aotearoa.
  • Complete and submit the application form before the closing date.
