CEC (Continuing Education Credits)

CEC (Continuing Education Credits) / CPD (Continuing Professional Development)

Many members of the Australia and New Zealand Sleep Science Association hold the world recognised Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) certification through the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) (a US-based association). Further details regarding RPSGT is available: www.brpt.org/rpsgt/rpsgt-handbook/

The ANZSSA Continuing Education Credits (CECs) program provides an avenue for members who are RPSGT to obtain recognition of ongoing education completed that can be utilised for RPSGT re-certification (required every 5 years and achieved by 50 CECs over that time or alternatively you can re-sit and pass the BRPT exam). ANZSSA is a pre-approved CEC provider for the BRPT (however all pre-approved credits are subject to approval by BRPT at the time of an RPSGT Recertification Application). CECs may be awarded for:

  • Attendance to national, regional, state and local sleep or sleep-related meetings including unbiased manufacturer-sponsored courses

  • Participation in an approved case conference or in-service programs

  • Completion of online training modules (i.e. webinars, web-based seminars) with self-assessment material completed

  • Reading of approved journals or approved magazines (i.e. ANZSSA Newsletter, A2Zzz Journal) with self-assessment material completed

For a program to be awarded CECs, the organizer of the program must complete and submit the online application form with relevant documentation attached to the ANZSSA CEC Committee at least two (2) weeks prior to the course, or the event.

The CEC Committee will review the application noting the program must:

  • be at least one hour in duration

  • include content relevant to the scope of practice of Polysomnography and duties of a sleep scientist/nurse/technologist

  • be presented by appropriately qualified personnel.

  • Further details regarding requirements are available within the application form.

Once a program is approved the organiser will be provided with a CEC approval code, and is expected to keep attendance records, provide attendance certificates and request evaluation of the program by participants.

Members will also be able to log and track their Continuing Education Credits (CECs) and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) through the CPD Module available through the "Members Area". You must be logged into the Members Area in order to be able to log and submit your CECs/PD via the available module.

You may contact the CEC Committee via email at cec@anzsleepscience.org, or you may wish to email the Secretariat directly at info@anzsleepscience.org.
